When you think of labor, what images or thoughts come to mind? Society has done a great job to impose fear among women when it comes to labor. Classic example is the woman in labor in a movie screaming in pain. Yes pain is a part of labor, but it is pain with a purpose.
I remember when I was pregnant, asking family and friends about their labor experience, what the pain like, and how bad is it really? No two answers were the same just as, no two individuals will have the same perception of pain as well as tolerance level. When I went into labor, I had no clue that I’d be walking into 13 hours of back labor. Was it intense? Yes, but reminding myself why I was experiencing the pain made all the difference. Also, I surrounded myself with quality support along with prepping my mindset throughout pregnancy.
Birth is sacred. The female body is built to endure nine months of pregnancy and bring life to this world. I know you may be thinking, if labor is sacred then why does it hurt so much? Pain is merely just a prescription between our two ears. Educate, yourself on pain relieving options during labor, both medicated and unmedicated. Prep your mindset. Practice breathing techniques to relax the body. Surround yourself with all the support you will need. If you walk into labor reminding yourself that labor pain is pain with purpose, you will endure the most amazing experience that cannot be summed up into words.
Unsure where to start? I would love to chat!
